Lefty Loosey Righty Tighty - The Meteor NCG 2021
Chirality is a term used in physics to refer to handedness when certain systems or structures, although similar, wind or spin differently. Handedness has been explored at various moments throughout paintings’ history, notable examples being the experiments of automatism by the Surrealists and the gestural legacy of Expressionism. It is the concept and perception of handedness that has informed the making of these expanded paintings. The artist has drawn rhythmic arabesque lines using each hand in turn, composing the ground for her generative art making process. These are hybrid artworks, not only of the left and right hands but also of traditional painting and fabricating processes, pointedly reflected in the name of the exhibition ”lefty loosey righty tighty”.
Fourth Wall - RAMP Gallery 2019
In theatre, the ‘fourth wall’ is the imagined wall that separates actors from the audience. The audience can see the actor, but the actor rarely acknowledges the audience unless they ‘break the fourth wall’...The paintings in Fourth Wall attempt a crossing as they actively come forward to meet their viewer. To consider the virtual and the actual as equally ‘real’ necessitates an acknowledgement of the intimate relationships between perception, affect, and concept.

The format of a diptych as a folded hinged object is alluded to by the placement of the shapes in this work. The forms are derivative of a halftone photograph detail. The illusion of depth extends towards the viewers space, while echoing the virtual spaces and colours of online life.
